Elva's Chalk Talks

Elva is doing her part to revive the old-time art of Chalk Talk. Her live drawings are an experience you will never forget! Elva’s Chalk Talks are fun, motivational, and inspiring. She offers programs for all ages and groups, sharing stories through fluorescent chalk, music, and sound effects. The program is then completed with a black light and colored light show, which brings her artwork to life. You have to see it to believe it!

Experience the charm and allure of The Barnyard Art Studio, which sprawls across 1200 sq. feet and boasts a variety of levels and rooms perfectly designed for shopping and engaging in art creation. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of our 40-acre farm as you browse our wide array of unique crafts and gifts, all while enjoying the serene & peaceful atmosphere.

Art Classes for All

Classes are held in Elva’s  Barnyard Art studio, yes, in the second story of the barn! Learn about watercolor, pastel, colored pencils, oil, acrylics, and Chalk Talk classes. For current class schedules, please contact us.


  • Realistic Drawing Classes

  • Chalk Classes

    Cost is $18.00 per session. Learn how to use fluorescent chalk and see the beautiful effects black light can have on your artwork! Everyone can experience the large scale art of chalk talk right on Elva’s farm in Lititz, PA. Several black lights and easels will be provided or you may bring your own.

  • Field Trips for Schools and Homeschool Groups

    Children will learn the history and experience the old-time performance art of chalk talk. They will get have their own black light chalk experience. They will transition around the studio and visit a variety of art centers which may include watercolor bookmarks, rock painting, crayon melting, cartooning etc. Some groups choose to bring their packed lunches for a noon break if the weather is nice there are picnic tables outdoors. We also offer the opportunty to view a film based on Elva's childrens books, "The Pony Cart Adventure".  (Prices vary depending on size of group. Please call for details).

  • Artist In an Hour

    Anyone can be an artist given the right materials and the proper instruction. Local Lancaster County Artist Elva Hurst will walk you through the steps of creating your own Masterpiece in her beautiful country art studio in the barn. It will be a joy to discover your own hidden talent as Elva guides you through the use of color and blending to create your own original artwork to enjoy. Select from your medium of choice: Oils, acrylics, watercolor, pastels, colored pencils, or drawings. For any group size ranging from 4-25 people. Call for updated prices.

We take joy in hosting groups at the farm for a distinctive and engaging experience. Come and partake in a Chalk Talk presentation, view our art gallery, and browse through our thoughtfully chosen array of locally made crafts and gifts. Every trip to the Barnyard Art Studio is brimming with delightful touches!


The Barnyard Art Studio & Gallery is open Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Other visits are welcome by appointment any day of the week. Please call  (717)-626-6582 to set up a time to stop by.
